Walls with Black and White Drawings or Etchings

A room by talented designer Windsor Smith
Ok, so you want to put a wall of drawings together that resembles a gallery wall and you are wondering what type of art to get, and where to get it.  I like to stay classic, but you can mix it up, using  contemporary and classic artists' pieces.  To be safe, stay with a theme, the human form (male or female), pen and ink animals, maps of Paris or London or architectural drawings (or mix the latter two).  You can also throw in a small mirror in the center or top to mix it up.

Portraits and studies of the human form always look good together and you can't go wrong with Michelangelo and Picasso. Use prints of varying sizes -- I think the portraits look nicer smaller with a wider frame. You can order the prints at Art.com or Posters.com and they can frame them as well. Regarding framing, you can also do it yourself using ready made frames at Michael's or the like or by ordering them from Pictureframes.com. Just choose simple frames and use the same color white mat. If you use a cheap frame, keep it thin and without embellishment.  I like to mix up frame width and colors wood, gold, antiqued black). Lay out your arrangement on the floor and try and balance the weight of the pieces around the arrangement. Measure from the ceiling and hang the largest piece first, starting in the center.  I will post soon on picture hanging techniques.
